COACHING AND STAFF
Bobby Ray
Bobby will be working as our main administrator during the morning (8:30am – 12 noon) in addition to instructing school and introductory groups in the spring. Bobby will be in his sixth season with the North Bay Tennis Centre and has just completed his second year of Physical and Health Education at Nipissing University.
Rob Shaw
Rob will not be joining us until the second week of July since he is currently on a university exchange to Australia. Rob will have completed his third year of Physical and Health Education upon return to Canada and will be our Club Pro for the summer months, focusing on our camp program and private lessons. Rob will be in his seventh season with the North Bay Tennis Centre and is a Club Pro 1 certified instructor with Tennis Canada.
Kurt Tempelmans Plat
Kurt will be our “Jack of all trades” working office shifts in the evenings and on weekends; and instructing the majority of our youth lessons including: teams, introductory group lessons, timbit tennis and other programs yet to be finalized.
Kurt is graduating from Ecole Publique Odyssée and will be entering into university in September. Kurt will be in his fourth season with the North Bay Tennis Centre and is eager to take on a lot of responsibility this summer.
Brendan Charles
“The new guy”. Brendan has assisted with lessons and activities in the previous summer showing a great ability to work with children and instruct skills effectively to new and developing junior tennis players. Brendan has just recently completed his Tennis Canada Instrcutor Certification and will be an official staff member at the North Bay Tennis Centre this summer. Brendan will assist in teaching our youth tennis lessons and programs in addition to working evening office shifts during the week. We look forward to working with Brendan for years to come!
Board of Directors
President Rob Dawson is back at it again this season and has much appreciated support from the rest of our hard working directors. Kevin Wright, Dan Jodoin, Brian Lott, Julie Maude, Pat Shaw and Bobby Ray have lent their time to improving the centre over the winter and can be approached at any time to answer your question or help you familiarize with the centre. Please don’t be afraid to speak with the Board and staff, they are there for your benefit and want to see the sport grow.
JUNIORS
Team tryouts for the Timbit (U10), Developmental (U18) and Competitive (U18) spring teams will take place on Sunday May 22nd at 1pm.
Staff and coaches will be selecting players to appropriate teams for best learning opportunity and growth. Teams will accommodate for age, ability, experience and motive.
The junior team program is by far the best deal in town with the opportunity to learn tennis specific skills and strategies in addition to working with a team and improving general athletic movements.
Team players receive a t-shirt, organized practices and game days, and a year end banquet/award ceremony.
Please inquire for more information.
LEAGUES
Organized play is an essential part of a Tennis Centre’s role in providing members with opportunity to learn, grow, and play the sport we have all come to enjoy. Brian Lott will be organizing our two leagues again this summer and ensures that there is a place for all players: new & experienced, playing for fun or competition.
This year an open doubles league will run identical to last year’s model on Wednesday evenings from 7p.m. –to 9 p.m. Register your team of two before the first week the first week of competition (June 1st). No additional cost to members, great way to get games! This year we will be relying almost entirely on e-mail for scheduling (and rescheduling).
The new singles league introduced last year was a great success and so will be repeated again this season. Operating similar to the ladder in previous seasons, one match a week will be decided by the league organizer (Brian Lott) to be completed at a time convenient for both players. Based on results, participants will play tougher or weaker opponents (such as on a ladder) as the season moves on.
Again, free for members and an excellent partner matching service.
PROGRAMS
Monday Night Socials: 7 - 9 PM
The Mixed Social will continue to run on Monday evenings from 6p.m. to – 9p.m.
Players are mixed and matched every half hour so that they are playing with new partners, against new opponents throughout the evening.
Individual points are kept throughout the summer beginning the first week of June, running until the last week of August. For every game won a point is recorded for the individual.
Participants must not register but it is always helpful in booking the courts. Forms are available at the centre and online.
Ladies Morning: 9 - 11 AM
By far one of our most enduring program. Back again for another great season!
Free Clinics:
New Adult: Mondays 5 and 6 PM
Intermediate Adult: 7 PM
